Well, if I am getting a series, I want to start with the first, so I bought it and started reading. After finishing the fourth book, I had to buy the other four and continue reading until the end of the eighth. I have just "surfaced", taken a deep breath, and have to tell McCartney Green thank you - thank you for a wonderful, thought-provoking, and steamy series! This first book is by far my favorite. It'a about a woman who was raped, and began taking martial arts classes, so she wouldn't be a victim again. Through an accidental meeting, she meets a Grand Master, who wants her to become his student for the MART competition.
As they train, they become the focus of an enemy from the teacher's past, and face many obstacles as they fall in love, and train for the competition. I am not familiar with martial arts at all, but learned great respect for the teacher's Eric Kino philosophy and way of life. Watching Shelley grow and mature, both spiritually, mentally, and physically reached down deep into my own soul.
This book was good on so many levels. It had a great come-from-behind physical story; it had a really steamy love story; it also had a meaningful overcoming hard times spiritual story as well. Not to mention a great family interaction story with his son, and her 3 kids. But to have all 4 great story lines in one book - makes a book impossible to put down!
So be prepared - once you start the first one, be prepared to go ahead and read the other seven! My biggest regret was coming to the end of book 8, and realizing that it was over.
Green will decide to revisit this incredible group of people in the future. All I can say is WOW! It was an awesome story of a woman who struggles to empower herself after a horrific incident and the characters were so richly written that you feel their joy and sorrow. I alternately cried and laughed out loud reading this story and loved every word of it!!!
An aspiring writer myself, I hope to one day be able to capture the reader the way that this book captured me. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. This story grabs you and you're caught - hopeless to put it down. You become one with the characters. Shelley chose to be a survivor after the assault, her husband 's abuse and being stalked by the man who raped her. With the help of her friends she showed true courage where some have chosen to disappear.
