This is suspense as well as a heartwarming story of a boy lost and the family who've come to live temporarily in the close-knit society of Vermont. Recommended for the whole family. Jul 07, Mary rated it really liked it Shelves: I loved this book because I've been to Brattleboro and could envision everything the author described in the story. I loved the storyline, but it seemed kind of far-fetched that the boy would live unnoticed in the woods all those years.

After his mother is murdered in his presence, thirteen year old David is deeply traumatized and sees no hope or help but to hide out in the woods near their home in Vermont. That he escapes notice of the locals may have more to do with the fact that this is a community that specializes in minding its own business. David manages to stay hidden for the next five years, living on his wits and sheer determination.

But when the Bradley's and their children move into the neighborhood near his old home, life forever changes for David. This is suspense as well as a heartwarming story of a boy lost and the family who've come to live temporarily in the close-knit society of Vermont and help David recover his life.

Recommended for the whole family and an enjoyable read for any age. A mother is murdered, a child runs for his life and a murderer hides all traces and leaves. Meanwhile the child lives on his own on the mountain for 5 years before he connects with another teenager and begins to learn to trust people once again.

This is christian fiction written in a simple style for children.

Grave Dangers: A Green Mountain Mystery

As an adult it was difficult for me to suspend logic that a child could survive on his own for 5 years, but children would instead see the adventure, the fear, the friendships. This book is an example of why I love to read. At least I try to be. I have a much-thumbed copy of The Art of War, and I glean something new from it every time I open it. China has a huge problem with Qin Shi Huang - and it now does with Mao. The questions are the same for both: What is the truth of their lives and accomplishments? Did they build or break the Chinese people? Where would "China" be without their having lived?

I tend to believe the official line about the tomb though. China does not have the resources or technology to open it. The sad thing is that if they did open it today, they would not understand what they were seeing - because they are convinced what it is which is my argument. Qin Shi Huang has been portrayed - for over years - as the ultimate in waste, extravagance, tyranny and violence. It would be impossible today for them to see him as the world's greatest peace maker and nation builder.
